In this article we will be showcasing some of our beautiful, intricately designed cremation urns made from ceramics. These ceramic urns have been created using a firing technique called Saggar, which makes the designs unique and astonishing to one's eye. Discover more about these cremation urns below.
The Saggar Firing Technique
This is a firing technique used by our artisans whom we work with, they make use of Iron(III), which is also known as Ferric Chloride, which is a compound that is used mostly in the etching of copper circuit boards and water treatment.
Each ceramic urn when in the early process of this technique is coated & wrapped in raw materials, which include copper wire, steel wool, ferns, sugar, salt and aluminium foil before being fired to 1100 Degrees Celsius.
The foil that is used in this process helps to trap the fumes that are created when the materials burn away, which then imprints themselves onto the surface of the urn. Due to this process, each Saggar Urn that is created is completely one of a kind and cannot be reproduced. This is a unique and beautiful aspect that comes with creating Saggar Cremation Urns.
Our creatively designed Tusk Cremation Urn has a narrow base that expands out the further it travels upwards towards the lid, leading to a very spacious opening of the ceramic urn.
The wide disc shaped lid is unique when it comes to cremation urns, as they usually have a traditionally narrow neck, with smaller lids. This gives the Saggar Urn a modern aesthetic, standing out against standard types of urns.
The colours that have been used in this design are light ivory colours, with brown sepia like crackles, which gives the urn a creatively dated and distinctive look. The rounded and large lid on the urn has details of the damask flower imprinted onto it, coinciding with the elements of the urn.
The Tusk Cremation Urn For Ashes also has the damask pattern printed onto the body of the urn, which matches the widely rounded and detailed lid. The damask flowers have symbolised beauty and love for centuries, which could make this urn suitable for a loved one who was your life partner, who you adored dearly. This pattern also links to nobility and royalty, dating back to the Victorian era in England.
This beautiful cremation urn would be suited to either a modern or classical designed interior within the home, as the shape of the urn has a modern take on it, while the intricate damask flower prints tie in with the classical time period.
