Ginko Cremation Urn for Ashes
SKU: CUU 004
Our Ginko cremation urn has a narrow base which widens with height, ultimately finishing with a lovely spacious top opening. This is an unusual shape for an urn, unlike a traditional style which has a narrow neck. Therefore, the lid is a large disc shape.
The ginko urn has a mostly, natural, light earthy tone to it. Due to the unique firing process, there are some patches where slow burning has taken place creating spots of darker browns, grey, and black tones, adding a smokey feel to the urn. These natural fired features bring the urn together with the darker lid feature which displays the variety of brown tones in earthy structures.
The urn is finished with an intricate print of ginkgo leaves, which almost give the impression that they are fossilized into the vase. The ginkgo tree symbolises peace, hope, vitality, and love.
The Saggar firing technique makes use of Iron(III), otherwise known as Ferric Chloride, a compound commonly used in etching copper circuit boards and water treatment. Each clay urn is coated and wrapped in raw materials such as copper wire, steel wool, ferns, sugar, salt, and aluminium foil before firing to 1100°C.
The foil then traps the fumes created as the materials burn away, which imprint themselves into the surface of the clay. Because of this, each piece is completely one of a kind, never to be reproduced. This is, of course, a feature and one of the many beautiful aspects making this Saggar cremation urn a beautiful piece of decor.
