Damask Cremation Urn for Ashes
SKU: CUU 008
Our Damask cremation urn has a narrow base which widens with height, ultimately finishing with a lovely spacious top opening. This is an unusual shape for an urn, unlike a traditional style which has a narrow neck. This style we have here allows for a large disc shaped lid which is unlike many styles of urns.
The cremation urn has a damask pattern printed on the body of the urn which eludes a silky and cotton feel. These patterns point towards nobility and royalty, dating back towards Victorian England. The patterns are very intricate and delicate, resembling the damask woven technique of fabric.
The delicate Damask pattern is accompanied by dark tan shades, resembling earthy and clay colours.
It is also inscribed with italic script which gives the impression of the Italian Renaissance. It reminds us of a time of important cultural change and appreciation. Due to the nature of the firing technique, this a completely unique and one of a kind item, perfect for honouring your loved one.
The Saggar firing technique makes use of Iron(III), otherwise known as Ferric Chloride, a compound commonly used in etching copper circuit boards and water treatment. Each clay urn is coated and wrapped in raw materials such as copper wire, steel wool, ferns, sugar, salt, and aluminium foil before firing to 1100°C.
The foil then traps the fumes created as the materials burn away, which imprint themselves into the surface of the clay. Because of this, each piece is completely one of a kind, never to be reproduced. This is, of course, a feature and one of the many beautiful aspects making this Saggar cremation urn a beautiful piece of décor.
