Choosing a wooden urn

What are they made of? Some of the wooden urns here are made from solid wood, including walnut, beech, maple, cherry and pine. The photo frame and photo cube urns are made from MDF with a wood effect finish, such as oak, walnut or mahogany. Each product page names the material.

Which size? Our wooden urns for human ashes run from keepsakes that hold a token amount of ashes to adult urns of about 3 to 4 litres. The ashes of an average adult come to about 3 to 3.5 litres. Every urn lists its capacity, and our urn size guide explains how to find out the volume of the ashes you have.

Photos and burial. The photo frame urns have a frame for a photograph. Some of the wooden urns here are biodegradable, such as the Eco Burial bamboo urn and the eco-friendly wooden urns, which are suitable for burial; each page says how its urn can be used. For more burial urns, see our biodegradable urns.

How do they close? Many open through a panel in the base that is fixed with screws.
