6 Unique Urns for Ashes

Choosing an urn is personal, and not everyone wants something that reads as a funeral object. Some families look for a piece that could sit on a shelf as a quiet sculpture, or one that nods to a color, a hobby, or a feeling the person carried through their life. Here are six of our most distinctive adult urns, all hand-finished and all available now.

1. Jadeite Cremation Urn

The Jadeite urn takes its cue from carved jade, with a soft green, stone-like glaze that shifts in the light. It reads as a piece of fine pottery rather than an urn, which makes it a natural fit for a hallway table or a bookshelf. Jade has long been associated with calm and protection, a quiet meaning for a piece you live alongside.

2. Sodalite Cremation Urn

The Sodalite urn carries a deep, oceanic blue glaze inspired by the sodalite stone. It suits anyone who loved the sea or simply favored a richer color than the usual neutrals. The depth of the glaze gives it real presence in a room without feeling heavy.

3. Teardrop Candle Sphere Urn

The Teardrop Candle Sphere combines two ideas in one form: a rounded, modern sphere that holds the ashes, and a recess for a tealight on top. Lighting the candle gives families a small daily ritual, a moment to pause by a soft glow. It works as beautifully unlit, as a smooth sculptural shape on a windowsill.

4. Crystal Sphere Urn in Gold

The Crystal Sphere in gold is the boldest piece here, a faceted, jewel-like sphere with a warm gold finish that catches the light from every angle. For someone who loved a bit of glamour, or simply something that stands apart, it is a striking choice that still feels considered rather than showy.

5. Hemisphere Urn

The Hemisphere urn is pure modern minimalism: a clean half-dome that sits low and quiet, more like a contemporary ornament than a traditional urn. It suits a pared-back, modern home and anyone who valued simplicity.

6. Raku Metal Keepsake Urn

The Raku Metal Keepsake is finished in the raku tradition, where flame gives each piece a swirling, multicolor patina that no two share exactly. As a keepsake size it is ideal for holding a small portion of ashes, so several family members can each keep one. For a person who was anything but ordinary, a one-of-a-kind finish feels right.

How to choose a unique urn

Start with the person. A favorite color, a love of the sea, a taste for the modern or the ornate, all of these point you somewhere. Then think practically about size and where the urn will live, since a sculptural piece earns its place on open display. If none of these is quite right, our full adult cremation urns collection has many more designs, and our guide to 20 unusual urns for ashes goes further still.

Frequently asked questions

What makes an urn unique?

It usually comes down to form, finish, or function. Sphere, teardrop, and half-dome shapes break from the traditional vase, stone-effect and raku glazes give an unusual surface, and features like a built-in candle add a personal ritual. Any of these can make an urn feel distinctive.

Are unique urns still suitable for a full adult?

Yes. Five of the six here are full adult capacity, holding around 200 cubic inches. The Raku piece is a keepsake size, designed to hold a small portion of ashes alongside a main urn.

Can a unique urn be displayed in the home?

That is exactly what these are made for. Each one is designed to sit comfortably on a shelf, table, or windowsill as a piece you are happy to have on view every day.

Can I see the ashes urn before buying?
