The Passage Urn – A Journey Between Worlds

A Symbol of Continuity and Calm

Among all our designs, the Passage Urn embodies the idea of transition, a serene movement between the physical and the spiritual. Handcrafted in Europe from high-grade ceramic and sealed with our Inner Coating for lasting protection, this piece is both an artwork and a vessel for memory. Its looping form represents the unbroken circle between life, love and remembrance.

The Design: A Gateway Between Worlds

The open centre of the Passage urn lets light flow through it, a quiet metaphor for passage, eternity and balance. Each piece is cast, refined and glazed by European artisans, and the finish creates subtle differences in tone and texture, so every urn is unique. Many families place a tealight inside the hollow curve as a flame of remembrance.

Craftsmanship and Materials

Unlike mass-produced urns, the Passage range is fired twice at over 1,200°C for lasting strength. The Inner Coating is a white, rubber-like barrier applied by hand to the interior. It acts as an invisible containment layer that keeps ashes safely held even if the outer ceramic shell is ever damaged. This feature brings craftsmanship, protection and peace of mind together in one design.

Choosing Your Passage Colourway

The Passage design comes in five artisan colourways, each individually hand-glazed to highlight its sculptural form and smooth finish. You can view all of them on the Passage collection page.

  • Oily Green, a deep jade-green glaze symbolising renewal and peace, which pairs beautifully with minimalist interiors or a garden memorial.
  • White, a crisp, pure glaze representing reflection and calm.
  • Matte Grey, a soft satin finish evoking quiet strength and balance.
  • Cream, a warm, ivory-toned glaze radiating serenity.
  • Crackle Glaze, a decorative effect with fine surface lines that give the look of delicate craquelure while staying smooth to the touch.

Placing the Passage Urn in Your Home or Garden

Position it where light moves through the open centre, on a windowsill, a side table, or in a garden memorial or outdoor niche. Because the urn is fired at a high temperature, it suits outdoor display in normal weather. Avoid hard knocks or collisions to protect the glaze.

Why Families Choose the Passage Design

  • European craftsmanship: each urn is hand-glazed by artisan makers.
  • Inner Coating protection: a reinforced internal lining exclusive to Urns For Angels.
  • Outdoor suitability: double-fired at over 1,200°C for strength and resilience.
  • Timeless sculptural form: at home as both an artwork and a centrepiece of remembrance.

Frequently asked questions

Can the Passage urn be used outdoors?

Yes. The urn is fired at a high temperature and suits outdoor display. It can be placed in gardens or memorial areas without risk of moisture getting in.

How is the urn sealed?

Each urn has a bottom-opening lid. Ashes are placed through the base, then sealed with the supplied clear adhesive for permanent closure, or with a removable sealant for temporary use. The Inner Coating keeps the ashes safely held regardless of handling.
